Experienced Venture Capitalist

Fred Dotzler, Managing Director and Co-Founder of De Novo Ventures, has over 35 years of venture capital investing experience. Prior to his career in investing, he served for 13 years in a variety of corporate positions. De Novo has raised three funds and currently has $650 million under management.

Mr. Dotzler was Managing General Partner of Medicus Venture Partners, which he founded in 1989. Prior to Medicus, Mr. Dotzler was a General Partner with Crosspoint Venture Partners for 5 years, where he invested in medical and technology companies.

Fred has invested in eight companies that achieved market values greater than $1 billion. He has served on the Boards of Directors of a large number of start-up and early stage private and public companies.Prior to joining Crosspoint, Mr. Dotzler served in executive positions in finance, marketing, sales, manufacturing and business development for companies selling pharmaceuticals (Searle), medical instruments (Merrimack), biotechnology research tools (Millipore), and computers (IBM).

He has been a Trustee of The Salk Institute, La Jolla, California from 2009 to present. Since May of 2015, Fred has been a Trustee of the Santa Fe Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Fred was a Director of The Arthritis Foundation, Northern California Chapter, from 2006 through 2010.

He is a Member of the Advisory Board of TheJournal of Private Equity, and an advisor to The Gruter Institute. At the invitation of the Provost of Harvard University, Fred chaired an external committee to review technology transfer at Harvard University in 2016.

He received a Masters in Business Administration in 1972 from the Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago, where he received a tuition scholarship. In 1971 Fred received an Advanced Degree in Economics from lnstitut des Sciences, University of Louvain, Louvain, Belgium. Fred was an exchange student from The University of Chicago on full scholarship, and graduated with honors. He received a B.S. Industrial Engineering for Iowa State University in 1967. He was the recipient of seven scholarships and was initiated into five scholastic and leadership honoraries. In 2000 he was awarded a Professional Citation in Engineering from ISU.
